Short Information: Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB), a Government of India undertaking, is inviting applications for 635 Bank Apprentice positions across 29 States and Union Territories of India. This is a structured 12-month on-the-job training program under the Apprentices Act, 1961 — and it pays a stipend of ₹12,300 per month throughout the training period.

For fresh graduates who want real banking exposure, this is one of the few structured pathways where you work inside a bank branch, learn day-to-day banking operations, and earn a reasonable stipend while doing it. The highest number of seats are in Uttar Pradesh (100 posts), followed by Punjab (90 posts) and Haryana (50 posts), making it especially attractive for candidates from North India.

The eligibility bar is deliberately kept accessible: you need a Regular Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university, and your age must be between 20 and 28 years as on 01 May 2026. Crucially, post-graduates are NOT eligible, and anyone with more than one year of work experience after graduation cannot apply — this is strictly for freshers and recent graduates.

There is no written exam. Selection is based purely on your 10+2 (HSC) marks in descending order, state-wise, district-wise, and category-wise. Applications open from 21 May 2026 and close on 06 June 2026. Apply at https://punjabandsind.bank.in/ — but first register on the National Apprenticeship portals.

Recruitment Note: About Punjab & Sind Bank

Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) is a public sector bank and a Government of India undertaking, with its Head Office at NBCC Building, Kidwai Nagar, New Delhi. Established in 1908 in Lahore (now Pakistan) by Bhai Vir Singh, Sir Sunder Singh Majithia, and Sardar Tarlochan Singh, the bank was founded on the principle of 'service before self.' After nationalisation in 1969, PSB has grown into a full-fledged scheduled commercial bank operating across India.

As of recent data, Punjab & Sind Bank operates over 1,500 branches and extension counters, with a particularly strong presence in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan — the northern belt of India. The bank offers a full range of retail, MSME, agricultural, and corporate banking products and services. PSB is listed on both BSE and NSE. It is supervised by the Ministry of Finance (Department of Financial Services) and is regulated by the Reserve Bank of India. The bank has been actively working on digital transformation, NPA resolution, and expanding its fintech partnerships.

Recruitment Note: Job Profile — Bank Apprentice (Nature of Training)

As a Bank Apprentice at Punjab & Sind Bank, you will be placed at a bank branch in your chosen district and trained in real banking operations under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Daily training hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and you will work alongside permanent bank staff.

The training covers day-to-day branch banking tasks such as customer interaction at the counter, passbook updates, cash handling support, account-related queries, KYC documentation, and digital banking assistance. You will also be involved in marketing and promotional activities of the Bank, and must maintain complete confidentiality of all financial and operational information encountered during training.

It is important to understand that apprentices are trainees, NOT employees. You cannot claim employment from the Bank after training, and the Bank has no obligation to offer a job. However, the 12-month experience in a PSB branch is highly valuable for banking competitive exams (IBPS PO/Clerk/RRB) and PSB's own future recruitment, where banking experience is seen favourably.

Recruitment Note: Benefits & Perks During Apprenticeship

Punjab & Sind Bank Apprentices receive a stipend of ₹12,300 per month for the 12-month training period. This is a fixed consolidated amount — no DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, or conveyance is payable separately.

Leave entitlement is limited to one Casual Leave per month (12 CL over the year), with a maximum of 4 CL at a time. Bank holidays as observed by the bank are applicable. No overtime is required or allowed.

Apprentices are NOT entitled to any employee benefits such as PF, Gratuity, Pension, LTC, Medical coverage, or Festival Advance — as they are legally trainees under the Apprentices Act and not employees. The primary benefit is the practical banking exposure and the certificate of completion of apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, which is a nationally recognised training credential.

Recruitment Note: Important Conditions & Disqualification Rules

Candidates must note the following critical conditions: (1) Only ONE application per candidate is allowed — multiple applications result in only the LAST valid application being retained and fee for others is forfeited. (2) A candidate can apply for only ONE state and ONE district — applications cannot be changed once submitted. (3) Signatures in CAPITAL LETTERS are not acceptable on the application or any Bank correspondence. (4) Ration Card and Learner's Driving License are not valid identity proofs. (5) Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification. (6) Providing false information or suppressing facts leads to cancellation and potential debarment from all future PSB processes. (7) If an apprentice does not report on the date of commencement of training, the contract is automatically terminated. (8) Apprenticeship contract can be terminated for misconduct with 7 days' notice, or by the apprentice with 15 days' prior notice.

💡 Expert Tip

There are two mandatory pre-steps most candidates miss: you MUST first register on BOTH https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/ AND https://nats.education.gov.in/ with a 100% completed profile before you can apply on the bank's website. Incomplete portal profiles will make you ineligible. When applying, you can only choose ONE state and ONE district — choose strategically based on where the competition is lower. Punjab has 90 seats across 9 districts (10 each), so the district-level cutoff will be lower than UP's Lucknow (15 seats) which will attract the most applicants. Your merit is determined entirely by your 10+2 marks, so if your HSC percentage is strong, target high-vacancy districts. Tie-breaking is done by Age (older candidates ranked higher) — not by graduation marks.
