Short Information: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is hiring 1,524 Apprentices across four of its major refinery units — Paradip (Odisha), Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Bongaigaon (Assam), and Gujarat Refinery — under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973. This is a structured 12 to 24-month hands-on industrial training program inside one of India's largest petroleum refineries, giving you direct exposure to chemical plant operations, mechanical systems, electrical setups, and instrumentation — skills that stay with you for life regardless of what comes next.

Trades open include Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant), Fitter, Boiler, Technician (Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation), Secretarial Assistant, Accountant, and Data Entry Operator. Qualifications range from Class XII pass to B.Sc / Diploma / B.Com graduates depending on the trade.

The stipend is paid as per the Apprentices Act — typically ₹7,700 to ₹9,000 per month for Trade Apprentices and ₹8,050 to ₹9,000+ for Technician Apprentices based on government-revised rates. No written test — selection is purely merit-based on your qualifying exam percentage. Applications open from 29 June 2026 to 28 July 2026 through the NAPS/NATS portal plus Microsoft Forms (both steps mandatory). Candidates must be aged 18 to 24 years as on 30 June 2026.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), established in 1959, is India's largest commercial enterprise and a Fortune Global 500 company, consistently ranked among the world's top energy companies. As a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, IOCL accounts for nearly 50% of India's petroleum products market share. The corporation operates 11 refineries with a combined throughput capacity of over 80 MMTPA, an extensive pipeline network of 17,000+ km, and over 56,000 retail fuel outlets across the country. IOCL's refinery units — including Paradip (Odisha), Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Bongaigaon (Assam), and Gujarat Refinery (Vadodara) — are among the most technologically advanced petroleum refineries in Asia, processing millions of tonnes of crude oil annually. The corporation also has significant presence in petrochemicals, natural gas, and renewable energy sectors, making it central to India's energy infrastructure.

Recruitment Note: Benefits & Perks for IOCL Apprentices

While apprentices do not receive regular employee benefits, IOCL provides a structured package: monthly stipend as mandated under the Apprentices Act, 32 days of General Leave (8 days per quarter) plus 12 days Casual Leave annually, and all public holidays observed at the respective refinery. Apprentices in plant-area trades (Codes 101–107) are provided with safety shoes and a helmet at no cost (returnable on completion). All apprentices are covered under Accident Insurance during the training period. 💡 Expert Tip

Two-step application is the biggest rejection trap here. Most candidates register on NAPS/NATS (Step I) and forget to fill the Microsoft Form (Step II) — and IOCL summarily rejects such applications. Keep your NAPS/NATS enrollment number ready before opening the MS Form, and use the exact same email ID and mobile number in both steps. Also note: if you hold a BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, or MCA degree, you are NOT eligible — even if you also have a Diploma. Candidates who completed their qualifying degree more than 5 years ago are also ineligible as on 30 June 2026. Apply for only ONE trade/discipline — applying for more than one results in outright rejection.

Common Questions (FAQs)

Q.1 What is the stipend for IOCL Apprentice 2026?
Ans: Stipend is paid as per the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 and Corporation guidelines. Based on current government-revised rates, Trade Apprentices (ITI/Matric) receive approximately ₹7,700–₹8,050 per month, Technician Apprentices (Diploma) receive approximately ₹8,050–₹9,000 per month, and Graduate Apprentices (B.Sc/B.Com) receive approximately ₹9,000+ per month. Exact figures are governed by the Act and may be revised.
Q.2 What is the last date to apply for IOCL Apprentice 2026?
Ans: The last date to submit the online application on NAPS/NATS portal AND fill the Microsoft Form (both steps) is 28 July 2026 by 5:00 PM. Applications submitted after this deadline or incomplete at either step will be rejected. The application window opened on 29 June 2026 at 10:00 AM.
Q.3 Is there any negative marking or written test for IOCL Apprentice?
Ans: No — there is absolutely no written test and no negative marking for IOCL Apprentice 2026. Selection is entirely merit-based, determined by the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in your prescribed qualifying examination (all years/semesters combined). Candidates with higher qualifying percentages rank higher in the merit list.
Q.4 What is the age limit for IOCL Apprentice 2026?
Ans: The minimum age is 18 years and maximum age is 24 years as on 30 June 2026 for General/EWS category candidates. SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation (up to 29 years), OBC (NCL) candidates get 3 years relaxation (up to 27 years), and PwBD candidates get 10 years relaxation (up to 34 years).
Q.5 How to download the IOCL Apprentice Notification PDF?
Ans: Visit the IOCL official website www.iocl.com and go to the 'What's New' section. Click on the respective refinery unit's apprentice notification link to download the detailed PDF. Four separate notifications are available for Paradip (PDR/HR/01/Apprentices-26), Mathura (MR/HR/APP1/2026-27), Bongaigaon (BGR/Appr/2026/03), and Gujarat Refinery (JR/01/2026-27).
Q.6 What is the educational qualification required for IOCL Apprentice?
Ans: Qualification varies by trade: B.Sc (Physics/Chemistry/Maths) for Attendant Operator and Boiler trades; ITI in Fitter (Matric base) for Fitter trade; 3-year Diploma in respective engineering discipline for all Technician Apprentice trades; B.A./B.Sc/B.Com for Secretarial Assistant; B.Com for Accountant; Class XII pass for Data Entry Operator (Fresher); and Class XII + Skill Certificate in 'Domestic Data Entry Operator' for DEO (Skill Certificate holders). Minimum 50% marks required (45% for SC/ST/PwBD).
Q.7 What is the selection process for IOCL Apprentice 2026?
Ans: Selection is based solely on merit — the aggregate percentage of marks in the prescribed qualifying exam. There is no written test. Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification, followed by a Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness examination. Only medically fit candidates with verified documents receive the final offer of engagement. Preference is given to first-time apprenticeship applicants over those applying for a second apprenticeship.
Q.8 Is IOCL Apprenticeship a permanent government job?
Ans: No — IOCL Apprenticeship is a training program under the Apprentices Act, not a permanent job. Upon completion of the 12–24 month training period, IOCL has no obligation to offer regular employment, and apprentices cannot claim employment rights. However, the training experience in India's largest petroleum refinery adds significant value to a candidate's resume for future PSU or private sector job applications.
