India Post WB LDCE Postal Assistant Recruitment 2026: 85 Posts
Short Information: The Office of the Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle, Kolkata, has issued Notification No. Rectt/X-13/LGO Exam/2026 dated 11 May 2026 for the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) for promotion to three cadres: Postal Assistant (Circle Office & Regional Offices), Postal Assistant (Post Office), and Sorting Assistant (Railway Mail Service). A total of 85 vacancies are notified for the year 2026 (01 January 2026 to 31 December 2026). This is strictly a departmental promotional exam — only currently serving officials of West Bengal Postal Circle who meet the eligibility service conditions are permitted to apply. This is not an open market recruitment. The pay scale for both Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant is Pay Level-4 (₹25,500–₹81,100) as per the 7th CPC, which translates to an approximate gross monthly salary of ₹38,000–42,000 after adding DA, HRA and transport allowance — a significant pay jump from Level-1/2/3 feeder posts. The written examination (Paper-I, 120 Minutes, 100 Marks) is scheduled for 21 June 2026 at 10:00 AM. - This is a DEPARTMENTAL exam only. Only currently serving officials of West Bengal Postal Circle (excluding officials from Postal Account Office or Wing) are eligible.
- Category A — i: Officials holding post in Level-3 of Pay Matrix with 3 years of regular service in Level-3, OR 5 years of combined regular service in posts of Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3.
- Category A — ii: Officials holding post in Level-2 of Pay Matrix with 5 years of regular service in Level-2 (including regular service in Level-1).
- Category A — iii: Officials holding post in Level-1 of Pay Matrix with 5 years of regular service in Level-1.
- Category B: Officials holding post in Level-1, Level-2, or Level-3 of Pay Matrix with total regular service of 8 years including service rendered regularly as Gramin Dak Sevaks. (Category B considered ONLY if sufficient Category A officials are not available.)
- Eligibility of service conditions shall be as on 01.01.2026.
- Eligibility is determined with respect to the post held substantively (not the level at which pay is drawn due to TBOP/BCR/MACP financial upgradation).
- Officials from Postal Account Office or Wing are NOT eligible to appear in this examination.
- Candidates should ensure they fulfil all eligibility criteria before applying — disqualification can happen at any stage of the process.

Recruitment Details: Exam Overview — Paper-I (Written Exam)
- Mode: Offline (OMR / MCQ Based).
- Negative Marking: No negative marking mentioned in official notification.
- Duration: 120 Minutes (2 Hours).
- Total Marks: 100 (in 2 Parts).
- Language: Bilingual — Hindi and English (as well as local language where Hindi is not local).
- Paper-II (Local Language Test): PERMANENTLY REMOVED vide Directorate letter dated 29.05.2024.

- Download the Application Form (Annexure-I) from this page or the official website www.westbengalpost.gov.in / www.indiapost.gov.in.
- Fill all particulars in BLOCK LETTERS as instructed. Affix a recent passport-sized photograph duly attested by Divisional Head / Unit Head in the box provided.
- Fill in details of posts held substantively (Level-1, 2, 3), date of entry in the department, and total eligible service as on 01.01.2026.
- Fill Annexure-III (Preference Form) to indicate your order of preference for Cadre (PA CO/RO / PA Post Office / SA RMS) and Division/Unit.
- Get the application countersigned by your Divisional/Unit Head with Designation Stamp. The Head must certify whether you are recommended as Category A or Category B candidate.
- Submit the completed application to your Divisional Office / Controlling Unit on or before 29/05/2026.
- APS (Army Postal Service) candidates must send their application to the concerned Divisions/Units only.
- Candidates working in Government/PSU must ensure there are no pending disciplinary proceedings — as per Directorate instructions, candidates with pending disciplinary/criminal cases will not be permitted.
