💡 Expert Tip

CSIR-CIMFR's selection process has three stages: Trade Test → Written Exam (Paper-I) → Written Exam (Paper-II & III). Here's the critical part most candidates miss: Paper-II and Paper-III are evaluated ONLY if you clear the minimum threshold in Paper-I (Mental Ability Test). However, the final merit list is based ONLY on Paper-II + Paper-III marks — Paper-I does not count toward merit. So practice Paper-I enough to clear the cutoff, then focus your preparation heavily on General Awareness, English, and your Trade Subject. Also note: Paper-II and Paper-III carry 1 negative mark per wrong answer, so avoid blind guessing. Candidates applying from government jobs must upload a valid NOC at the time of application itself — not later. Apply early; the portal may face heavy load near the 19 June deadline.

Common Questions (FAQs)

Q.1 What is the in-hand salary for Technician-1 Group-II at CSIR-CIMFR?
Ans: The post falls under Pay Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200) as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. The official notification states approximate total emoluments of ₹37,000 per month at the minimum of the scale, inclusive of House Rent Allowance applicable at Dhanbad rates. After accounting for DA, HRA, and TA, the estimated gross monthly emoluments at the starting level range between ₹34,000 and ₹40,000 depending on the city of posting and applicable allowance rates.
Q.2 What is the last date to apply online for CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1 recruitment 2026?
Ans: The last date to submit the online application is 19 June 2026 at 05:00 PM. The application fee must also be paid through SBI Collect by 19 June 2026 (05:00 PM). Applications opened on 20 May 2026 at 10:00 AM. Candidates are advised to apply well before the deadline to avoid last-minute server load issues on the CSIR-CIMFR portal.
Q.3 Is there any negative marking in the CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1 written exam?
Ans: Yes, negative marking applies in Paper-II and Paper-III. For every wrong answer in Paper-II (General Awareness and English Language) and Paper-III (Concerned Trade Subject), one mark will be deducted. However, Paper-I (Mental Ability Test) has NO negative marking. Since the final merit list is based solely on Paper-II + Paper-III scores, candidates should avoid guessing in these two papers.
Q.4 What is the age limit for CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1 recruitment?
Ans: The minimum age is 18 years and the maximum age is 28 years as on the closing date 19/06/2026. Age relaxation is available: SC/ST candidates get 5 years, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) get 3 years, PwBD (UR) get 10 years, PwBD (OBC) get 13 years, and PwBD (SC/ST) get 15 years of relaxation. Ex-Servicemen get 3 years after deduction of actual military service from their real age. Departmental CSIR/Govt./PSU employees also get 5 years relaxation.
Q.5 How to download the CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1 Notification PDF?
Ans: The official notification PDF (Advt. No. CIMFR-02/2026) is available on the CSIR-CIMFR official website at www.cimfr.res.in. Navigate to the Recruitment/Career section on the homepage. All addenda, corrigenda, and updates related to this advertisement will also be published exclusively on this website. The 30-page English-language notification is the authoritative document — in case of any discrepancy with the Hindi version, the English version prevails.
Q.6 What is the educational qualification required for CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1?
Ans: Candidates must have passed SSC/10th Standard (or equivalent) with Science subjects with a minimum of 55% marks. In addition, they must possess ONE of the following: (a) ITI Certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade from a recognized institution; OR (b) 2 years of full-time apprentice training in the relevant trade; OR (c) 3 years of work experience in the relevant trade in a Ministry, Department, PSU, or Autonomous Body under the Government of India/State/UT. The 11 advertised trades include Electrician, Fitter, Draughtsman (Civil & Mechanical), Instrument Mechanics, Survey, Welder, RAC, Automobile/MMV, Wireman, and Carpenter.
Q.7 What is the selection process for CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1 Group-II?
Ans: The selection involves three stages. First, a Screening Committee shortlists candidates from applications. Shortlisted candidates appear for a Trade Test (qualifying). Those who pass the Trade Test are called for a Competitive Written Examination with three papers — Paper-I (Mental Ability Test, qualifying only), Paper-II (General Awareness & English), and Paper-III (Concerned Trade Subject). Paper-II and Paper-III are evaluated only for candidates clearing the Paper-I threshold. The final merit list is prepared based only on combined Paper-II + Paper-III marks.
Q.8 Can candidates apply for multiple post codes in CSIR-CIMFR Technician-1 recruitment?
Ans: Yes, candidates can apply for multiple post codes (trades), provided they meet the eligibility criteria for each individual post code. However, a separate application form (except primary registration details) and a separate application fee of ₹500 must be submitted for each post code. Only one application per post code per candidate is accepted — if multiple applications are submitted for the same post code with different email IDs, only the latest complete application will be considered and fees for other registrations will be forfeited.
