As a Class-I (Junior Grade) officer in the Assam Home Guards Services, the selected candidate will hold a gazetted officer-level position responsible for commanding and supervising Home Guard units across assigned districts or zones.

Key responsibilities include organizing and training volunteer Home Guards personnel, assisting the police during law and order situations, natural disasters, elections, and VIP security arrangements. The role involves field duties as well as administrative functions — maintaining muster rolls, reporting to higher authorities, and coordinating with district administration. Given the nature of the force, the job demands physical fitness, leadership ability, and quick decision-making under pressure. Selected candidates can expect postings across various districts of Assam, with transfers as per departmental requirements. Career progression follows Assam Home Guards Service Rules 2020.

Recruitment Note: Benefits & Perks Beyond Salary

As an Assam State Government employee, a Class-I Home Guards officer receives a comprehensive package beyond the basic pay of ₹22,000–₹97,000 with Grade Pay ₹11,800. New appointees are covered under the New Pension Scheme (NPS). Annual leave entitlements include Earned Leave, Medical Leave, and Casual Leave as per state service rules. Government quarters may be provided subject to availability. Festival advance, group insurance, and other welfare benefits are also admissible under Assam Govt. norms.

Recruitment Note: Important Rules & Conditions

Admission to all stages of the selection process is purely provisional and subject to verification of eligibility conditions at any stage. If any candidate is found ineligible at any point before or after the examination, their candidature will be cancelled without notice. No request for withdrawal of candidature will be entertained after application submission. Category once declared in the application cannot be changed at any stage of the selection process. Furnishing false information in the application may lead to disqualification from appearing in any APSC examination for a specified period and may also attract legal penalties. The Commission does not defray the traveling or other expenses of candidates called for interview. Canvassing in any form will result in immediate disqualification. The final result will be published on the APSC website and in newspapers — no interim enquiries about results will be entertained.

💡 Expert Tip

Two critical traps that get applications rejected in APSC recruitments: First, your OTR (One Time Registration) profile on apscrecruitment.in must be fully updated BEFORE you apply — age, caste, and educational qualification data is directly fetched from your OTR profile. If it's outdated, your application will carry wrong data and cannot be edited after final submission. Second, for age proof, ONLY your Class X or Class XII Board Admit Card/Pass Certificate/Marksheet is accepted — Aadhar, Passport, or Birth Certificate will NOT be considered. Also note: the essay component of Paper-II can be written in Assamese OR English, but precis writing and comprehension must be in English only. Indicating a different medium on the answer book than what you actually wrote in will result in zero marks for that component.

Common Questions (FAQs)

Q.1 What is the in-hand salary for APSC Home Guards Class-I (Junior Grade)?
Ans: The post is in Pay Band-3 with a pay scale of ₹22,000–₹97,000 and Grade Pay of ₹11,800. At the entry level, basic pay starts at ₹22,000. After adding DA (currently approximately 46–50% of basic for Assam state employees), HRA, and other admissible allowances, the estimated gross in-hand salary is approximately ₹38,000 to ₹44,000 per month. Senior positions within the grade will draw significantly higher take-home. This is a gazetted officer position, making it one of the better-compensated junior-grade state service posts in Assam.
Q.2 What is the last date to apply for APSC Home Guards Recruitment 2026?
Ans: The last date to submit the online application is 07 June 2026. The application portal opened on 08 May 2026. Importantly, the last date for fee payment is one day later — 09 June 2026. Candidates must ensure fee payment is completed within this deadline, as applications without fee payment are considered invalid and will be summarily rejected. Apply well in advance to avoid last-minute portal congestion.
Q.3 Is there any negative marking in the APSC Home Guards written exam?
Ans: No negative marking has been mentioned in the official notification (ADVT NO. 02/2026) for this recruitment. The written examination has two papers — Paper-I is objective type (MCQ) for 200 marks, and Paper-II is descriptive (Essay + Comprehension) for 200 marks. Candidates should still attempt carefully, as there are minimum qualifying marks separately fixed by the Commission for each paper. Evaluation of Paper-II is done only for those who qualify Paper-I.
Q.4 What is the age limit for APSC Home Guards Class-I Recruitment 2026?
Ans: The minimum age is 21 years and maximum age is 38 years as on 01/01/2026 for General (Open Category) candidates. Age relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation (maximum 43 years); OBC/MOBC candidates get 3 years relaxation (maximum 41 years). Ex-Servicemen from UR category can apply up to age 50, with additional relaxation of 3 years for OBC/MOBC and 5 years for SC/ST Ex-Servicemen as per Assam Gazette notification ABP.48/2009/8 dated 19/12/2022.
Q.5 How to download the APSC Home Guards 2026 Notification PDF?
Ans: Visit the official APSC website at www.apsc.nic.in or the recruitment portal at apscrecruitment.in and navigate to the Notifications or Advertisements section. The notification was issued as ADVT NO. 02/2026 (No.49 PSC/DR-13/1/2025-26) dated 05 May 2026. You can also contact the APSC helpline at 1800-572-23-43 (10 AM – 5 PM on working days) or email cceapsc@gmail.com for assistance with accessing the notification.
Q.6 What is the educational qualification required for APSC Home Guards Class-I?
Ans: The minimum educational qualification is a Graduate degree in any discipline from a University recognized by the Government. Candidates must upload all semester/year mark sheets clearly reflecting subjects studied, along with the final pass certificate. There is no specific subject/stream requirement — any graduation discipline qualifies. Additionally, candidates must be permanent residents of Assam and should upload a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or Employment Exchange Registration Certificate as domicile proof.
Q.7 What is the selection process for APSC Home Guards Recruitment 2026?
Ans: The selection is a multi-stage process: (1) Written Examination — Paper-I (200 marks, objective, General Ability & Intelligence) and Paper-II (200 marks, descriptive, General Studies, Essay & Comprehension). (2) Physical Standards Test (PST) — height and chest measurement. (3) Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — 100m race, 800m race, Long Jump, conducted by SLPRB at Guwahati. (4) Medical Standards Test. (5) Interview/Personality Test (50 marks) by APSC. Final merit is based on written exam + interview marks combined.
Q.8 What documents are required for the APSC Home Guards application?
Ans: Mandatory uploads at the time of online application: Class X or XII Board Certificate/Marksheet (age proof only — no other document accepted), all graduation mark sheets + pass certificate, Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or Employment Exchange Registration Certificate (domicile proof), caste certificate (if applicable, issued by Govt. of Assam), BPL certificate (if applicable), Ex-Servicemen Identity Card + Discharge Book (if applicable), NOC from employer (if in Govt. service seeking pay protection), Declaration Form-A (Small Family Norms), recent photograph and signature. All documents must be in PDF format, max 4 MB, 200 dpi greyscale.
