Recruitment Note: About University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS)

University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) is one of India's premier government medical institutions, located at Dilshad Garden, Delhi — 110 095. Established in 1971, it functions as a constituent college of the University of Delhi and is affiliated with Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, a 1,500-bed teaching hospital that serves one of the largest patient loads in North India. UCMS offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS/MDS), and doctoral programs across more than 20 clinical and para-clinical departments. It is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Dental Council of India. The institution has a strong tradition of producing clinicians, researchers, and academicians who have gone on to lead departments in top hospitals and medical colleges across the country. UCMS has consistently ranked among the top government medical colleges in Delhi and continues to expand its research output and clinical infrastructure under the broader University of Delhi system.

Recruitment Note: Job Profile — Senior Demonstrator / Senior Resident

A Senior Resident/Senior Demonstrator at UCMS functions as a key clinical and academic pillar of their assigned department. On the clinical side, they are responsible for managing ward rounds, outpatient clinics, emergency duties, and assisting in complex procedures under the supervision of senior consultants. In teaching departments like Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology, they conduct practical sessions, laboratory demonstrations, and tutorials for undergraduate MBBS students. Senior Residents also contribute to departmental research — assisting in clinical trials, publishing case reports, and presenting at academic conferences. The role involves shift duties including night call responsibilities in departments like Anesthesiology, General Medicine, General Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. This 3-year tenure is widely regarded as an essential bridge between PG training and a permanent faculty or specialist position.

Recruitment Note: Benefits & Perks Beyond Salary

In addition to the CCS Pay Matrix salary, Senior Residents/Demonstrators at UCMS receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) as applicable to Delhi (Class X city), and Transport Allowance. Medical coverage for the employee and dependents is provided under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Contributions to National Pension System (NPS) are applicable. Candidates are entitled to earned leave, casual leave, and medical leave as per Central Government rules. Leave Travel Concession (LTC) is admissible for self and family members. The 3-year tenure at a premier Central institution significantly strengthens eligibility for future applications to permanent faculty positions in government medical colleges and specialist roles in AIIMS, PGI, and other Central institutions.

Recruitment Note: Important Tenure & Channel Rules

The tenure of Senior Residency is strictly 3 years from the date of joining. If a candidate is already serving as Senior Resident/Demonstrator in any Central Institution or Hospital, their application must be routed through proper channel. In such cases, the pay drawn in the previous post will not be protected and the combined tenure across all Central institutions must not exceed 3 years in total. Consequent upon adoption of self-certification provisions by the Government of India, the College processes applications entirely on the basis of documents submitted at the time of the interview. Submission of false or fabricated information will result in termination of service and legal action.

💡 Expert Tip

This is a tenure-based residency post, NOT a permanent appointment — the 3-year clock starts from your joining date and the total period cannot exceed 3 years even if you have served as Senior Resident elsewhere. If you are already working as a Senior Resident in any Central Institution, your application MUST be routed through proper channel, and your previous pay will NOT be protected. Also note: OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate must be of the current financial year — an outdated OBC certificate is a direct rejection trigger. Upload all reservation documents before submitting; the College will not entertain any appeal once the application is rejected on this ground.
