Recruitment Note: About Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL)

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is a Government of India Enterprise under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Established in 1987 with its registered office at World Trade Centre, Colaba, Mumbai, NPCIL is India's premier nuclear power utility with comprehensive capability across the entire nuclear power lifecycle — from site selection, design, and construction to commissioning, operation, maintenance, renovation, modernization, plant life extension, waste management, and decommissioning. As of 2026, NPCIL operates 22 reactors across 8 nuclear power stations with an installed capacity of over 7,480 MWe, contributing a significant share to India's low-carbon electricity generation. The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) in Tamil Nadu, developed in collaboration with Russia, is the largest nuclear power plant in India, with Units 1 & 2 already operational and Units 3-6 under various stages of development, adding 6,000 MWe to the national grid progressively.

Recruitment Note: Benefits & Perks Beyond Stipend/Salary

Beyond the monthly stipend during training and the Level-3 pay post-absorption, NPCIL Technicians receive Transport Allowance, House Rent Allowance (or company housing within the KKNPP township), Site Location Allowance, and Annual Professional Update Allowance. Employee benefits include Leave Travel Allowance, leave encashment, Comprehensive Health Service Scheme (CHSS) medical coverage for self and dependents, educational facilities for children within the NPCIL township, Children Education Assistance, reimbursement of membership fees for professional institutions, cable TV charges, mobile phone charges, newspaper charges, and canteen subsidy. Incentives include the Performance Linked Incentive Scheme. Recruitment Note: Service Bond & Training Conditions

Selected candidates must execute an indemnity bond or bank guarantee of ₹5,07,000 for a period of 5 years before induction into the traineeship programme. In the event of bond breach — leaving before 5 years of service after absorption — the candidate must repay an amount equivalent to the total stipend plus book allowance actually received during training. Trainees who score less than 60% marks during the 2-year training period will NOT be absorbed as Technician/B. Additional increments may be granted based on training performance. Round-the-clock shift work is mandatory for all Stipendiary Trainee/Technician posts at KKNPP. While the current posting is at Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu, selected candidates are liable for transfer to any NPCIL/DAE site, project, or joint venture across India or abroad as per organizational requirements.

Recruitment Note: Project Affected Persons (PAP) Benefits

Candidates whose land has been acquired for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project are classified as Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and receive two special benefits: (1) Relaxed qualification — for Plant Operator, the minimum is 40% aggregate in HSC Science (instead of 50%), and for ITI trades, a simple pass in SSC with Science and Mathematics is sufficient. (2) 20% bonus marks added to marks secured at all stages of selection for Group C posts. PAP candidates must upload a valid Employment Preference Certificate issued by the Collector/Deputy Collector/Tahsildar of the relevant district as proof. The certificate must be in the candidate's name and must be clear, legible, and contain all necessary details — failing which candidature may be rejected.

💡 Expert Tip

Three critical traps to avoid in this recruitment: First, there is a 5-year service bond worth ₹5,07,000 — breaking it means repaying the entire stipend plus book allowance received. Second, trainees who score below 60% during training will NOT be absorbed as Technician/B, making the training period marks as important as the entrance exam itself. Third, the OBC/EWS certificate must be issued on or after 01.04.2026 — an older certificate will be rejected at document verification. Also note: 59.99% in your qualifying exam is treated as 59%, NOT rounded up — enter your exact percentage to two decimal places without rounding.

Common Questions (FAQs)

Q.1 What is the in-hand salary/stipend for NPCIL KKNPP Stipendiary Trainee?
Ans: During the 2-year training, the stipend is ₹20,000/month in Year 1 and ₹22,000/month in Year 2, plus a one-time book allowance of ₹3,000. After successful completion of training with at least 60% marks, candidates are absorbed as Technician/B at Pay Level-3 (basic ₹21,700). With DA at 60% (₹13,020), the approximate monthly pay+DA is ₹34,720. Adding HRA, Transport Allowance, and Site Location Allowance, the effective in-hand can reach ₹42,000 to ₹48,000 per month.
Q.2 What is the last date to apply for NPCIL KKNPP Stipendiary Trainee Recruitment 2026?
Ans: The last date for online application submission is 29 June 2026 at 4:00 PM (16:00 hrs). The application window opens on 08 June 2026 at 10:00 AM. Applications must be submitted exclusively at https://www.npcilcareers.co.in. No documents need to be sent by post or email. NPCIL does not grant extensions, so candidates are advised to apply early.
Q.3 Is there any negative marking in the NPCIL KKNPP exam?
Ans: Yes. There is negative marking of 1 mark deducted for each incorrect answer in BOTH the Preliminary Test and the Advanced Test. Each correct answer carries 3 marks. Since the maximum score per stage is 150 marks (50 questions × 3 marks), candidates should attempt only questions they are confident about. The minimum qualifying score for UR candidates is 40% in Prelims and 30% in Advanced Test.
Q.4 What is the age limit for NPCIL KKNPP Stipendiary Trainee 2026?
Ans: The age limit is 18 to 24 years for UR candidates as on 29 June 2026 (cut-off date). Eligible birth date range for UR: 29 June 2002 to 29 June 2008. Relaxation: OBC (NCL) +3 years (upper age 27), SC/ST +5 years (upper age 29), PwBD-UR +10 years, PwBD-OBC +13 years, PwBD-SC/ST +15 years. There is no upper age limit for NPCIL's own employees who otherwise fulfill criteria.
Q.5 How to download the NPCIL KKNPP Recruitment 2026 Notification PDF?
Ans: The official notification PDF for Advertisement No. NPCIL/KKNPP/HRM/01/2026 is available on the NPCIL Careers website at https://www.npcilcareers.co.in and on the main NPCIL website at https://www.npcil.nic.in. Any corrigendum or addendum will also be published exclusively on these two portals — candidates should regularly check both websites for updates.
Q.6 What is the educational qualification required for NPCIL Plant Operator and ITI trades?
Ans: For Plant Operator: HSC (12th) or ISC with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with minimum 50% aggregate marks. For all other trades (Electrician, Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Welder, Electronics Mechanic, Instrumentation Mechanic): SSC (10th) with minimum 50% marks in Science AND Mathematics individually, plus a 2-year ITI certificate in the relevant trade. For trades where ITI duration is less than 2 years, 1 year of post-qualification experience is additionally required. English must have been studied at SSC level for all trades.
Q.7 What is the selection process for NPCIL KKNPP Stipendiary Trainee?
Ans: The selection has 3 stages: (1) Preliminary Test — 50 MCQ, 150 marks, 1 hour; common for all trades; (2) Advanced Test — 50 MCQ, 150 marks, 2 hours; trade-specific syllabus; conducted on same day immediately after Prelims. Final merit is based only on Advanced Test marks. (3) Document Verification — top 3x vacancies shortlisted. This is followed by Medical Fitness test and Character & Antecedent Verification. Selected candidates then undergo 2-year training.
Q.8 Is the NPCIL Stipendiary Trainee a permanent government job?
Ans: It starts as a training role, not a permanent appointment. Selected candidates are first Stipendiary Trainees for 2 years. On successful completion with at least 60% marks, they are absorbed as Technician/B (Pay Level-3) — which is a permanent regular government job at NPCIL. However, a 5-year service bond of ₹5,07,000 applies from the date of induction into training. Leaving before completing 5 years of service post-absorption will attract bond recovery.
